Used 1957 Dodge/Mopar D100 truck - cars & trucks - by owner - vehicle... for sale in Newbury Park, CA

Vehicle Description

This truck has been my family for over 25 years. It was purchased by my father 1995. My dad did a resto-mod on it back in the 1990s. It then sat for several years until I got it 5 years ago. Since, everything on the truck has either been rebuilt, replaced, or refurbished. This truck was built in my garage by my son and I. It’s not a $100k custom build, but is well cared for and we have thousands of hours in it.

History:
1957 Dodge trucks were a one-year only truck. The 1/2 tons either came in a 6 foot or 7 foot bed option. This one is a 7 foot. The highly option trucks had v-8’s and wraparound windows. This was an originally high optioned truck. Unlike Chevys and Fords, Dodge parts are extremely hard to find. There are a few companies out there that do make some parts, but they aren’t cheap. Most parts have to be custom or refurbished.

Engine:
The engine came from a 1970 Dodge Coronet. It is a 318 with a 340 cam, Edelbrock intake Edelbrock carb, headers and electronic ignition. It has an aluminum radiator with a 3000 CFM electric fan. My dad had it rebuilt in the 90’s and it now has an estimated 10,000 miles on it. When I got it five years ago, it ran great, but had been sitting for a while. I pulled the motor and refreshed it with new gaskets , tuned it up, and added billet and chrome accessories. It runs excellent and is extremely reliable. This motor is turnkey, sounds great, and will get you anywhere.

Transmission:
The 318 is backed by a small block 727. These transmissions are virtually indestructible. The transmission was rebuilt around the time the motor was done and has estimated 10,000 on it. I added a 2200 stall converter and it shifts smoothly. The shifter is a Lokar shifter. This company makes high-end shifters and shifter parts for street rods. I wanted the granny four-speed look inside the cab of the truck. Lokar created this shifter. It works and looks great.

Rearend:
The rear end is from a 1965 Plymouth Satellite. It is an eight 8 3/4 with 2.76 gear ratio. This truck was built for reliability and “cruisability”, not the dragstrip.

Suspension and brakes:
The k-member is from a 1978 Plymouth Volarie. Back in the 80’s and 90’s, this is what a lot of street rodders used. These were great, but the popularity of a Mustang II or S-10 k-members have since outdated them. All the bushings and components were replaced. The disc brakes/braking system is new. I put a new steering box and power steering pump in as well. This truck stops better than any new truck out there!

Paint and body:
The paint was done three years ago. The original color of the truck was orange. Not a huge fan of orange. I found a period correct pea green that I liked. I think the paint sets the tone of the truck. The panels are laser straight and the truck looks great. The bed of the truck was sprayed with a bedliner at the paint shop and is extremely high-quality. I had the runningboards sprayed by a local Line X shop and they look great. Instead of using oak to replace the wood floor, I used poplar. Poplar has a light green grain which really made the wood pop. Poplar is also a hardwood and is extremely durable. All of the weatherstripping was replaced as well.

Chrome and emblems:
Being a one year only truck, these items were extremely rare. I was able to salvage everything and had them either polished or re-chromed. They look great and made a huge difference when we were putting the truck back together.

Interior:
I had a local shop reupholster the seat. They were able to find a pattern that was the same color as the truck. It really made it stand out and the interior is of high-quality. The door panels and headliner are factory type Dodge. I located a shop in the Midwest that remakes Dodge interiors from the 50’s. The steering column is a billet tilt GM style column. Unfortunately there is not enough Mopar aftermarket parts that would make the truck look nice. The steering column looks great and functions perfectly.

Electrical:
The truck was rewired with new electrical throughout. Because of the GM steering column, I was able to utilize GM style electrical.

Wheels and tires:
The wheels are 16 x 8 American Racing “Torq Thrusts”. It has brand new General tires all the way around and looks great.

Additional:
The truck has a custom hidden hitch behind the license plate. My dad towed a 1957 camping trailer with it back in the day. It looks clean and is done right.

The reason why were selling:
It’s just time to move on. I have other projects that are ready to go and it’s also time to buy the wife a new vehicle.

I’m asking $27,500. As you can see we have thousands of dollars in the truck and I know how building vehicles and selling them can go. There is some wiggle room, but not much. This is a unique truck and not your typical Chevy or Ford that you see at every car show with a small block Chevy in it. Just about everything on this truck is still Mopar and it was done that way for a reason. Serious inquiries only. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. Texts messages or e-mail for initial contact preferred due to the scams. Thanks for looking.
