COLD START AND WALKAROUND:

I secured this barn find early this year, before the Pandemic, as a way to spend some time with my boys working on a car that I have had before. My first Porsche was exactly this model (and color), so I paid too much for it and got to work!

When located, this car did not run. It didn't have a battery, and it sat on 4 flat tires with the airbox and injection system disassembled. It had been stored with a half-empty fuel tank for over 13 years. However, this has been a primarily Colorado-owned car and has little rust. That said there are still areas of rust that could be solved as part of a comprehensive restoration (if that is your thing and you want to make the big bucks).

So, I began by putting thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of work into making this car roadworthy, titled, insured, and registered in my name. This is now the nicest example of these I have ever owned... and I have owned 4 to date.

Parts that were updated, replaced, or restored:
New tires (4)
New center caps
New matching lug bolts for the period-correct EMPI Riveria wheels
Mount and balance tires (4)
Replaced incorrect later model speedo/odometer with correct 1973 version
New Fuel tank
New 2 port fuel pump
New fuel filter
New fuel and vapor lines
New Stainless Steel tunnel lines for fuel
New Vaccum lines in the engine bay
Replaced missing Decel valve
Replaced Cold Start valve
New Air filter
New Spark plugs
New fuel injector o-rings
New Optima Red-top battery
New Master Cylinder (911 update)
Brake fluid flush and bleed
Reupholster Driver and Passenger Door cards in the correct pattern
Reupholster Driver and Passenger seat in Ski Blue Tartan
Replace and Rekey broken Passenger door lock (all locks are to same key on car)
Replace Transmission gear oil with new correct spec
Clutch adjustment
New Porsche floor mats with 914 embroidered (Porsche Part)
New Pedal covers
New circuit board for the Throttle Position Sensor

Current valuations of this car (according to hagerty.com) place it between $12,500 and $20,000. This car sits close to, but not quite, the definition of a #3 car (see below). As such, this car has tremendous upside as a restorable classic (it is very complete and "feature-heavy" as a 1973 appearance package). Restored as a #2 or #1 example, current markets would indicate a sale value between $45,000 and $90,000. As an example... for about $60K you can have a perfect one. This one isn't that, but could be very close with a little more effort.
Given the newer interior parts and replaced parts including the overhauled brakes and entire fueling system ... I feel this very nearly meets the definition of a #3 car.

How did I arrive at the price listed?

Well, according to Hagerty classic car valuations... this is the definition of a #4 car:
#4 vehicles are daily drivers, with flaws visible to the naked eye. The chrome might have pitting or scratches, the windshield might be chipped. Paintwork is imperfect, and perhaps the body has a minor dent. Split seams or a cracked dash, where applicable, might be present. No major parts are missing, but the wheels could differ from the originals, or other non- stock additions might be present. A #4 vehicle can also be a deteriorated restoration. "Fair" is the one word that describes a #4 vehicle.

...and here is the #3 definition:
#3 vehicles could possess some, but not all of the issues of a #4 vehicle, but they will be balanced by other factors such as a fresh paint job or a new, correct interior where applicable. #3 vehicles drive and run well, but might have some incorrect parts. These vehicles are not used for daily transportation but are ready for a long tour without excuses, and the casual passerby will not find any visual flaws. "Good" is the one word description of a #3 vehicle.

This example has been (amateur) resprayed close to original color. The overall appearance is one that looks good from a distance (for a car of its age) or a solid "10-footer" as they say.

The chrome bumpers are in great shape without pits or scratches. The body is generally very straight, but there are some dings and chips from 47 years of existence.

Other than the perfectly clear /chip-free replacement windshield, all of the glass is original.

The headlights are still the original style units and have not been upgraded.

The original fuel injection is in place and working perfectly. The car starts on the first try thanks in part to the brand new battery as well as new fuel and air lines.

The car handles well and drives without excessive rattles and shimmies, but this is an older car. I don't drive every day... but for quick jaunts to the store, coffee or ice cream... it fits the bill. It seems like every time I take her out, she gets a compliment.

The taxes on the car have been paid for the next 5 years (collector plates), I am not in a hurry to sell.

The price is fair and open to negotiation, however, these cars are only increasing in value...
nearly 30% over the past 3 years alone.

Thanks for your interest.
