Used 1982 VW Vanagon Diesel Camper Van - cars & trucks - by owner -... for sale in San Francisco, CA

Hey Everyone! I know the struggle of buying a car through craigslist, so i want to be as honest and transparent as possible! If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask! Not every sale on craigslist has to be sketchy :)

What you're seeing is my beloved 1982 VW Vanagon GL with the rare 1.9l turbo diesel engine.

The Good:

Legal
- I have all documents, clean title in my name, and registration is good until may 2021

Mechanical
- 1.9L Engine only has about 50,000 miles on it according to my mechanic
- Cleaned the gearbox for the shifter and added new tabs to the shifter fork
- new glow plug relay
- fresh oil & filter change
- multi battery isolator installed that provides power from generator to both batteries (starter and aux)

Exterior
- New paint job: interior as well as exterior.
- Not a single sign of rust, and all the little bits of rust that were there, i've treated inside out.
- New turning signal lenses
- New side mirrors
- New Hinges that keep the rear hatch open perfectly
- Thule rack for surfboards etc.
- Great offroad tires

Interior
- Original Westfalia furniture in this GL! A real stealth camper!
- all appliances work great:
- Original Dometic fridge runs on Shore power, aux battery and efficiently on lpg.
- cooker works great, sink as well and all hoses have been replaced!
- I added an auxillary battery under the driver seat that leads to a new fusebox under the sink
- A brand new carpet from gowesty (the blue one) and another topper for the carpet (the brown one) to keep things nice and clean for now!
- New panels (made them myself) that all have two layers of R13 recycled denim insulation behind them to keep you nice and warm
- everything was outfitted with rattletrap (Kilmat) to keep the car silent when you drive.
- New floor on wood with insulation sheets below and reflectics in crevices
- Original curtains (i'll put them up once the new hooks arrive

Electrics
- New Fusebox still has lots of slots free for the future, now it leads power to the fridge, the battery & water level light, water pump and a cool multicolor led strip that i added which works with a remote!
- New radio that works with bluetooth and a remote microfone that i added.
- New radio antenna arriving this week
- Got a solar panel and solar charge adapter which I can include

The Not so good

- Shifting is squeeky every now and then as a bearing is missing (can be replaced, just have to drop the fuel tank for which i don't have a jack)
- Well, it's an ooooold car! So don't expect to race uphills :) Be sure to know about them, as it takes some time to get up the very steep ones in second gear with 35 mph!
- On flat she drives about 55 - 65
- downhill she's a racecar haha!
- The door (not window) seals could be replaced soon! They're unfortunately on backorder at Busdepot for some more time.
- In the front the lower steering wheel cover is missing. It's just really hard to find for a reasonable price. They're like $65 on Ebay every now and then.

All in All

She's fuel efficient, cruises wonderfully and is just a whole lot of fun to take on adventures. Very reliable car, never broke down on me, and will probably ride on forever like a diesel does. I'd be happy to take her anywhere in the US to deliver her. I'm not in a rush to sell at all –actually tempted to keep her– so don't make me any ridiculous offers.
