Used 1963 Chevrolet Bel Air/Impala Wagon Barn Find Patina - cars & for sale in Hawthorne, CA

This incredible 1963 Chevrolet Bel Air wagon was recently acquired from the original family that bought the car new here in California in 1963. The car was built at the Los Angeles plant and stayed here its entire life. It is a factory V8 car with the two speed Powerglide automatic transmission. The car is in AWESOME SHAPE! It is has the most incredible patina and is one of the most solid cars I have ever seen! The only spot of rust is on the passenger inner fender where the battery tray was. The rest of the car is rock solid! I can only imagine the stories this car could tell. Trips down Route 66, Lake Tahoe, Palm Springs, and definitely Cachuma Lake in 1968 based upon the permit still present on the driver's vent window. This would be a perfect candidate for a LS swap and keep the patina kind of build. Don't let this one get away!

EXTERIOR:
This car looks awesome! Originally finished in Autumn Gold (Paint Code 920), this wagon now has an incredible finish created by nature and over 30 years of California sun for the most incredible patina. We only pressure washed the car when we got it and wiped of some primer that was sprayed on it. If you put a coat of wax on it, it would really come to life. I would preserve the patina and just clear it. The car is rock solid and super straight. The Rallye wheels and original Derby style center caps really fit the car. The rear lights were removed, along with some of the trim at one point and the family could not locate them at the sale of the car. The rest of the chrome and trim looks great.

MECHANICAL:
The car did not run when we got it and it had sat for over 30 years. We soaked all of the cylinders before we turned it over. Once we turned it over by hand we performed an oil service, a complete tune up, including a HEI distributor and gave it some fresh fuel. We were surprised that it fired right up on the first try. We also went through the brakes. We put a new master cylinder, new shoes, hardware and wheel cylinders. We also did a transmission service, replaced the radiator and resealed the intake and valve covers. The odometer shows 50,172, but I can't confirm if that is actual mileage, of course.

INTERIOR:
The interior is in original condition. The cluster and controls are in good condition and appear to be working. The dash, seats and door panels also appear to be original. As the car has sat for so long the interior would require refurbishing.
