998 cc BMC A-Series inline four-cylinder engine, 55 HP, four-speed manual front transaxle, four-wheel independent suspension, hydraulic four-wheel drum brakes; wheelbase: 80"
Originally designed as a four-wheel-drive utility vehicle for the British army, the Mini Moke was produced between 1964 and 1993, initially by British Motor Corporation and subsequently under the Austin, Morris and Leyland brands. Although ultimately rejected by the military due to its low ground clearance, the two-wheel-drive version became the sought after as an inexpensive leisure vehicle, appearing frequently in European vineyards and estates, in seaside towns and even on the decks of yachts. The Moke (an archaic word for mule) also found favor with generations of farmers, linemen and ranchers, who coveted them for their toughness and sheer utility.
The Mini Moke also gained stardom in popular culture, with appearances in TV’s The Prisoner series and the 1973 James Bond film Live and Let Die , as well as in the Traffic song “Berkshire Poppies”.
Some 51,000 examples were built, with production moving between the UK, Australia and Portugal throughout its 29-year run. This 1967 example likely has Aussie roots.
Finished in yellow with new custom upholstery yellow/white stripped top and seats completed by world class Pebble Beach upholsterer John Parkhurst. This Mini Moke from 1967 is a superb example, offered from long-term dry storage. This basic layout, combined with small 10-inch diameter wheels at each corner of its squat, box-like body, provides the Mini with a deceptively spacious passenger cabin, seating four adults comfortably.
