More information:

A van called Castle Black. Our family bought the van in 2013. It had 95.000 miles on it. We felt the original 5.0L 305 cubic inch small block v8 was underpowered and replaced it with a gm crate engine 5.7L 350 cubic engine V8. This size engine delivered more adequate power. Somehow we have lost the service records from this time period. However the same shop preformed this work as did most of the van repairs and maintenance between 2014-2019. They are available for questions if they arise.

My wife and I road tripped for 5 months in this van in 2018. Before 2018 my father mostly used it for short camping trips and as his second vehicle. Since 2018 my wife and I have used it for shorter trips and weekend excursions. In 2018 it saw every state west of the Rockies except Wyoming, and that was because we ran out of time to double back to that state as we expected. I can accurately state that this van is livable for #vanlife in the summer months…and it performs adequately for snow-camping/ski adventuring in winter. I think full time winter living would be difficult without further modifications.

We are selling Castle Black because we aren’t using it as much as we would like, and don’t expect to have the time for extended road trips in the near future. We believe it is time for somebody else to get to enjoy it.

The van has a lifted sleeping area that coverts to bench seating. When set in bed mode there is ample storage underneath. Along both sides of the bed there are built in storage compartments. There are also two small closets at the rear of the bed for clothing on hangers. At the rear of the bed there is a hidden storage compartment with a small safe installed. Enter from the back of the van and there is additional storage underneath the bed for camping or cooking hardware. There is a built in dry storage cupboard and an extendable kitchen prep station. With both of them extended you have a small but functioning outdoor kitchen space.

The two front seats of the van are installed on captain swivel mounts and can rotate to accommodate seating needs if the weather turn poor and you want extra seating in the van. The passenger seat rotates a full 180 degrees. Unfortunately the driver seat only rotates 90 degrees (as can be seen in the photo). The steering wheel gets in the way of further rotation. If inclined you could probably modify the steering wheel to allow for full rotation of the drivers seat.

Tires were bought new in April 2019. Cooper tires, Discoverer Mud and Snow, 235/75/109T XL. They are 15,000 miles into 60,000 warranty. There is a working spare tire and a jack included.

We think this van in perfect for someone looking to do the #Vanlife thing for a few months to a summer. It would also be great for shorter trips and/or weekend ready adventures. Of course it is not as new or lavish as the Mercedes sprinter vans. We too coveted them with jealously during our #vanlife summer. On the upside this van doesn’t cost 60-100K. We feel that you could probably use it for a few months to a few years and resell for near the same price if you aren’t planning on keeping it long term.
