Vehicle Description
Additionally, this is a 4wd “syncro” model, fully upgraded to “3 knob” status with a decoupler and front and rear locking differentials. It is a rugged off-road vehicle, with high clearance, fresh 235-75 r15 BFG tires, and four speed manual transmission with granny low, to help you creep out of any sticky situation.
The powerplant has been swapped for a Subaru 3.3 H6 engine out of an SVX. The conversion was done by Small Car Performance, who are at the forefront of Vanagon-Subaru conversions.
The Van is a joy to drive. The engine provides great pickup when you touch the pedal. The front brakes have been upgraded to “South African big brakes” and the rear brakes upgraded to Audi disc brakes. The interior is clean and fresh. The air conditioning has been upgraded to r134a refrigerant. There are extensive maintenance and upgrade records included from the previous owners as well as a Vanagon factory service manual and Chilton manual for the Subaru engine. Truly, I have seen no other camper that makes such effective use of space, and on top of that It’s a legitimate 4wd exploration vehicle that can turn around in tight spaces. It has a significantly smaller footprint than my ford ranger!
The only caveat is that there is some significant rust in the body seams behind the front doors, above the rear wheels, and at the seam at the bottom of the rocker panels. The undercarriage however is clean. The floors are not rusty at all, and all the chassis mounting points are rock solid. You could buy this van, take it out traveling for the summer, and pull it into a body shop come winter, or even DIY the body rust if you are up to the task.
Asking $45K. Potentially willing to deliver, but I think it would be best if any potential buyer came to look at it personally and take it for a test drive.
