Used 1988 Lincoln Town Car Signature Series - cars & trucks - by owner -... for sale in Longmont, CO

This is a low mileage sample of the pinnacle of American luxury cars in the late 1980s: among the top of the Lincoln Town Car offerings. It is approaching 121,000 miles, and appears to have been owned by only one family (by the name of Bahn) prior to my grandson buying it in October of 2019 - at which time the odometer read 13,416 (meaning 113,416 because the hundred-thousand digit does not register on these old vehicles). While he admired a fine car older than himself and enjoyed the old Lincoln's luxury, he recently decided he needed a 4WD pick-up to support his camping addiction. He now has one a year younger than he, and grandpa has the Lincoln for sale.

As you can see from pictures, there are a few body marks to keep it from NADA's highest retail value of $9,200 -- or Hagerty.com's "concours" rating of $20,700. However, with nearly everything working on this fully optioned automobile, and considering its excellent condition for a 33 year old car, it is easily above NADA's "average" retail value of $4,400. So, my no-haggle price of $2,750 should be very attractive.... or make a reasonably close offer.

This is a good-running, smooth-riding, large capacity sedan as it sits. The 302ci V8 with electronic fuel injection is known for its reliability, longevity, ease of service, decent performance, and satisfaction with regular gas. The automatic transmission is smooth and tight, and the overdrive was noted by reviewers as a great tool for fuel efficiency. Basic service was last done by the local Ford dealer on Oct 28, 2020 (at 120,301 miles).

Power windows and door locks all work, though the cool driver's door numeric keypad hasn't been tried because no one remembers the codes. Cruise works great. Heat and vent work. Radio works, but the antenna motor stopped deploying the antenna, so AM stations don't tune. My grandson bought an interface that let him feed his phone music via the tape player, and that's all he cared about. Lights all work. Trunk doesn't key-open, but there is an electronic release in the glove compartment that does open the trunk - Gently press the trunk lid down and it'll latch itself. I'm still learning all the gadgets.

What compels me to price this Town Car so low?
1) It's going to need tires soon. What it has will carry the next buyer for a while, but with winter coming, I'd suggest upgrading before real snow arrives.
2) My grandson did not care whether the A/C worked or not, so he turned down the broker's suggestion to recharge the system. The compressor runs without noise, so I do think all it needs is recharging, however I cannot guarantee that.
3) There are a few body marks. I've tried to draw attention to the worst in certain photos. But they'll only bother someone who wishes to restore a classic to near new appearance, and those folks usually work with much more serious damage. It's a very serviceable car as is.
4) The radio antenna issue I mentioned.
5) One radio speaker grill is loose (stored in trunk), and I'm not sure how to properly affix it to the driver's door.
6) The carpet is in good condition, but could use a cleaning, and the driver's side floor mat is worn.
7) The passenger side tail light lens has a small hole in it. A replacement I found online costs $48, but I don't plan to buy one.
8) The surface plastic of the driver's door elbow rest is cracked pretty badly. A car restoring friend of mine (Steve Becker) says there are places that sell replacements for people who rebuild old cars, but I won't be pursuing that.
