The time has come for me to part ways with my blue 1994 Ford F-150 XL pickup truck. I’ve been the owner of this truck for around 3 years - it’s been an awesome truck.

I’m listing it for sale as it needs a few repairs I’m not qualified to perform myself, and the labor cost at a shop is more than I’m willing to pay, though the cost of the parts themselves is relatively low. It was one of those - “I took it in for an oil change and the shop (which I trust and hold in high regard) found a number of issues that should be addressed”. I firmly believe if you take care of your things, they’ll take care of you, and when you can’t take care of them, you should find someone else who can.

THE “LESS THAN GOOD”
Let’s get these out out of the way first: It needs new rear brakes (drums, shoes, and cylinders), new rear axle seals, new driver side outer tie rod end, new radius arm bushings, and a new radius arm bracket. They noted the radius arm bracket that needs to be a replaced currently has a crack in it, and the bushings are past their useful service. They also recommended changing out the valve cover gaskets, due to minor oil seepage around the valve covers. Take this next bit for what you will: the repair shop also recommended the vehicle should remain parked until the repairs are compete. I’ve driven it a few times around town for errands since then. I’ll let you decide if you want to trailer this or drive it home - just wanted to keep you informed. Again, the total parts cost to perform these repairs isn’t very high; they’re all just fairly labor intensive and a bit out of my league to perform at home.

THINGS TO ADDRESS
Other than those, there are a few other items to address: The temp gauge has never quite worked correctly - it’s usually at the max point, or a little past - maybe it needs a new thermostat, maybe the gauge needle doesn’t quite work - who knows? Nobody I’ve taken it to seems to think there’s a problem.
The rear gas tank (yes, this has dual gas tanks) fuel pump doesn’t have quite enough oomph left to start the truck every time when it’s set to the rear tank. The front gas tank starts right up every time.
The horn doesn’t work - not sure what the issue is.

WHY I LOVE THIS TRUCK
Now that we have the less than great out of the way - WOW, this is a great truck! It’s a non-smoking vehicle. The interior is in immaculate condition, and the body & original paint are in pretty darn good shape, considering their age. As you can see in the pictures, the paint isn’t perfect, there’s the classic F-150 rust at the cab corners and over the wheel wells, and the rear bumper has a bit of rust near the hitch ball. There’s a trailer hitch under the bumper - I’ve never pulled / towed anything with this, so I can’t confirm whether the wiring works. The bed itself is in decent shape - no major dings, dents, or rust. I recently purchased a DeeZee rubber bed liner, and until I got that, I most always put a tarp down when hauling anything. The tailgate does have a bit of surface rust along the top edge, as noted in one of the pictures. The transmission shifts easy and the 4.9L straight 6 just purrs. There’s no air conditioning on this trim package - the fan and heat work great.

One of the coolest things in this truck are the awesome original floor mats, which are in excellent condition. Really, the entire interior of this truck is great - no rips in the seats, no holes or tearing in the original vinyl floor, the headliner is perfect, and no cracks or marks on the dash.

In the 3 years I owned this, I used it as a weekend truck and for running errands. In a world of automatic and computer controlled everything, it was refreshing to drive this manual transmission OBS pickup around town and over the surprisingly excellent paved country roads in rural Iowa. Not long after I purchased it, I replaced the following:
New windshield (the original had a minor crack in it when I bought it)
New Ultra Type 62 15x7 machined alloy wheels
New Michelin X LT A/S 235/75R15 tires (less than 3,000 miles since I put them on)
New rear leaf spring hangers
New battery
New Kenwood door and cab speakers
New windshield wipers
