Used 1999 Jeep Wrangler Sport TJ 4.0, Auto, AC, full doors, hard&soft tops for sale in Fresno, CA

We are selling our backup vehicle, a 1999 Jeep Wrangler TJ in “Chili Pepper Red.” It has an automatic transmission, the 4.0L straight 6 engine, air conditioning, cruise control, full doors, a hard top and a clean title in our name. It is all stock except for the following:

We are selling it because we have put a deposit down on an electric car for mileage. The Jeep gets about 15 mpg. It will come with the hardtop, 2 soft tops, 2 sets of wheels and all the extras for that price. That’s $4,625 worth of extras. A hard top is about $1,500 alone! The repairs were an additional $1,090.

History:
We bought this Jeep in mid-2017 to have as an extra car and as a way for our family and friends to spend time together. The prior owner was a 20 year old girl from Coarsegold that sold it because she was going to college out of state and needed better gas mileage. It was her first car. They had replaced the transmission in it, installed the radio, put the front bumper and side armor on it. I told her I wanted a reliable Jeep that wasn’t going to leave me stranded on a trail with small children and that is exactly what it has been. I wouldn’t hesitate to take it on a long road trip or on a trail deep into the mountains. While I’ve owned it, it has always started and has never been towed. I’ve taken it up to Bald Mountain about 4 times in the last 2 years. It has no lockers and no lift, yet it can do one of the hardest trails around! The tires give about a 1” lift at the differential though. It’ll cruise up the 4-lanes at 50mph no problem.

It has a clean title and only 1 accident reported in its history, per the CARFAX I pulled when I bought it which I’ll give you. See repairs below for details about the accident. It’s been registered in Nevada, Utah, and Central CA. This explains the lack of rust. As far as the mileage, I was originally worried about the 200k on the engine, but there’s no knocking or smoking to say it’s on its last leg and it’s still super smooth. These 4.0 motors are good for 400k miles, more like a diesel for longevity and torque.

The Cons:
It looks like the last owner hit a boulder while 4 wheeling. The driver’s side front bumper was bent (and replaced with a Smittybuilt) and the front fender was bent. I repaired the fender with a slide hammer, bondo and some color matched spray paint. You can’t tell there was a dent and you’ll get the original bumper and photos to see it was minor. Other than that, there’s the normal leaks at the oil pan and power steering box. It needs a drip pan for a nice driveway but wasn’t enough to need more fluids between changes or repair. The clear coat is coming off on the hood and the cowl is black in color. I have a color matched cowl that I’ll include. The driver’s seat has a tear at the bottom that I’ve covered with a seat cover and hasn’t been anything for me to worry about. There's a chip in the windshield that hasn't spread.

The Pros:
This is an honest, fun vehicle. Because it’s not lifted and carries its weight low, it handles like a slot car and you don’t feel like you’re going to roll it. It’s the right size for a new driver to learn on or someone that wants a sporty feeling vehicle. It has supreme visibility and you can go topless in less than a minute with its flip-back roof. Super convenient! The TJ has coil springs versus leaf springs on the older square headlight YJ models… your back will thank you for getting coil springs! My wife wanted this model for the value and because it still has airbags, while the older ones don’t. Also it’s about half the price of a newer JK, so if you want fun, reliability and safety in a package you can afford, the TJ model Jeep is the way to go. Also, our kids fit just fine in and out of booster seats. My buddy just went on a trail run in his TJ with his adult sons in the back of his, so adults fit just fine too. When I was shopping for it, I can’t tell you how many times there was something seriously wrong with the other Jeeps I looked at…the title was salvage, registration was 3 years behind due to failed smog, wasn’t in the seller’s name, a check engine light or something else that was odd. You get what you pay for though. The first photos were current as of October 2019. The one with the smaller wheels and hard top is from when I bought it. The final pic is after ascending the hard route of bald mountain and shows the OEM style framed soft top.

This Jeep is a gem and you’ll love it as much as we have.
