For sale is a Ford Explorer in great condition. Only reason for selling is because my work car was just totaled, so selling this to put towards a down payment on a new vehicle.
This vehicle was garage kept by the previous owner so there is some surface rust underneath but everything is completely solid. No holes or rot anywhere.
The odometer reads ~123k miles, BUT the previous owner also purchased a brand new engine and transmission and had them professionally installed.(I have the paperwork). So there is ONLY 48K ON THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION!! The gentleman I purchased this from was a fantastic about the vehicle and meticulously maintained everything which is why I originally purchased this vehicle. You can see in the pictures there is no “typical Ford rust.”
4WD works great. Winter is coming and this is the best vehicle I’ve ever driven in the snow. I have an 800 foot uphill gravel driveway, and have never had the slightest bit of trouble in the winter so you’re never getting stuck anywhere.
V6 engine so it’s better on gas than the V8 versions.
All season tires are less than a year old.
The previous owner cleaned and armor-all’d the engine bay and I have kept up on this as well to ensure all the components in there do not rust.
The interior is excellent. The pictures were taken without any vacuuming being done. This is just how I keep my vehicles looking.
Starts right up even on the coldest days. Runs great and shifts great (which isn’t surprising considering the low miles on the engine and tranny).
The last two years the only work I’ve needed for inspection has been brakes/rotors/tires. Nothing mechanical has had an issue.
The only issues I can think of are:
The two small surface rust spots behind the front tires. It’s not rotting, just can see the paint starting to peel a bit. (See pictures).
The rear wiper doesn’t work. Didn’t work when I purchased it and it’s pretty pointless so I just left it.
The vehicle is a 4 speed automatic with overdrive. When you’re on the highway, and the vehicle gets to overdrive (5th gear) the “Overdrive Off” light comes on. Had this looked at and it is a sensor that is apparently not working. So the computer thinks the transmission isn’t shifting into overdrive. But it is. The transmission shop dropped the pan, and there was no debris which means the gears are not being damaged. While he had it apart he changed the fluid and replaced the filter so the transmission has a fresh tune up. This was $500. If I wanted the sensor fixed so the light doesn’t blink on the highway, it was going to cost more because the whole thing needs taken apart to reach it. Not worth it to address a nuisance light when the tranny is working fine.
I don’t really need to sell this and it’s currently my daily driver so please, no low ball offers, but I’m open to discussion.
This is an excellent SUV with solid body, great interior, and only 48k on the two most important parts of the vehicle. This isn’t your typical “old explorer.”
