Used 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac for sale in Plainfield, IL
Vehicle Description
Vehicle is in Plainfield IL.
Original owner. Nonsmoking. No accidents. My daily driver for a long time. It’s still in working condition and I drive it frequently. That being said, at 20 years and 317k, it has some quirks that I’ve summarized below.
Issues:
- Driver side door does not lock.
- Power moon roof needs a new motor (current permanently in closed position).
- Spare tire underneath mount cord broke. I have the tire and clasp still.
- Transmission sometimes slips in 2nd gear. It only happens in a very specific restart situation that I can explain as well as how I’ve been managing it for years.
- 4WD makes clicking sound and sometimes seem to turn on and off. That being said, I’ve never had an issue with it not working.
- Engine light is on. Its been on for months. It’s nothing major mechanical but will need to be addressed for emissions. It’s an e-vap code.
- Interior blower fan only works on high speed
Body Condition:
- Exterior condition is not perfect but not bad for age and miles main issues are scratching over rear passenger wheel well. Front window had a couple small stone chips.
- Wheels have corrosion.
The Good:
As I said it’s been my daily driver and I generally have maintained it well for anything that impacts drive ability and safety. Given COVID, the vehicle wasn’t used much since March 2020. Major investments in the vehicle the past few years include:
- Driver side front wheel bearing 10/19
- Thermostat housing 10/18
- Radiator and hoses 9/18
- Brakes, including all hydraulic brake lines and water pump 6/18
- Rear tires 3/18
- New exhaust system from resonator back to exhaust tip 8/17
- Front tires 3/17

- After market power moon roof (needs new motor)
