Used 2005 VW Passat TDI wagon; 1988 Grand Wagoneer for sale in Durham, NC

I have two vehicles that I don't have time to give the love they deserve anymore. Both have issues, and both are mainly for enthusiasts. I have clean titles for both. The price listed, $3,200, is for each vehicle, not for both. I'd sell both for $6,000.

1) 2005 VW Passat TDI wagon, dark green in color. Yes, it's a diesel. Yes, it can get 40mpg or close to it. Yes, it can exceed 30mpg in town. It also has a Pioneer touchscreen head unit with reverse camera and Android Auto professionally mounted. It has leather seats, woodgrain trim and a sunroof that works. The transmission was rebuilt six months ago. It does have some issues:
- It has over 200k miles.
- The driver seat has a ripped area that needs to be patched or lived with.
- There is some rust on the front passenger fender.
- There is some missing clearcoat paint on the hood and on the roof near the windshield.
- The AC stopped working this year. I think it needs a new compressor.

2) 1988 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. Don't get excited by the listing saying diesel, that's for the VW. This is a gas engine. 130,000 miles. Please note, that is 1988 as in Ronald Reagan. It is Grand WAGONEER as in woody (not Grand Cherokee). This is an AMC with a 5.9L engine that has less than 150 horsepower and gets 11 or 12 miles per gallon on a good day. THIS IS NOT A VEHICLE FOR ERRANDS OR TO DRIVE YOUR KIDS TO SCHOOL. THIS IS NOT PRACTICAL FOR MOST USES. It was originally white in color, and it's white now, but the paint on it now was more like a preservative sprayed on by an amateur. It runs, and it has some significant upgrades as well as some significant issues.
The upgrades:
- TBI fuel injection installed and working well. It used to have a carb. The fuel injection makes cold starts a lot easier and may have some minor advantages in power and fuel economy (but don't expect too much there).
- There is a custom center console installed between the front seats. The console includes a storage area, two cupholders, and a Nexus 7 tablet built into a frame. The stereo head unit has Bluetooth but also is connected to the Nexus 7, so you can use Spotify or whatever you prefer. You can run it off of your phone's hotspot, or if you prefer, you can get a SIM to give the Nexus 7 its own data plan. You can use Waze or whatever mapping app on the Nexus 7 (it runs normal Android apps).
- New-ish Michelin tires (a few years old but very low miles) on black alloy wheels. I still have the original steel wheels that would go with the vehicle if you buy it.
- New tie rods and tie rod ends. New steering box. By "new" meaning a few years old with low miles since I put them in.
- New headlights from teamgrandwagoneer.com that accept modern headlight bulbs like you can buy at Walmart. The original headlights on these are dim and yellow. The ones in this vehicle look like ones on most cars from the last 20 years, whiter and brighter.
- I have a spare front driver fender that's in better shape than the one on the vehicle, that I got off a parts vehicle. You can have that in case you want to swap it on.
- I have a spare 4wd transfer case you can have from the parts vehicle.
- The upholstery and headliner are in good shape with a few relatively minor flaws.
- Trailer hitch. For all the horsepower this thing doesn't have, it has tons of torque.

Now, the issues:
- There is rust on rear quarterpanels, including some places where it's rusted through.
- The paint looks weird. I think a regular guy sprayed it on in the sunshine or something like that. The paint looks irregular and pebbly. It was just intended to prevent rust until it got a real paint job.
- The woodgrain on the driver side fender doesn't match; but, the spare fender has woodgrain that does match.
- Heat and AC do not work.
- The power windows are unreliable and need work.
- It's filthy right now from sitting under a tree for a long time.

Had I continued putting time and money into it, my plan was to fix the rust, and do a custom white and metallic gray paint job with a painted woodgrain stripe in between ... but after pouring over $10k into this, I started losing interest. Time to pass the baton.

Now let me add, this vehicle has issues. I do not want to get badgered or nickeled and dimed over them. I am stating them upfront, although given the vehicle's age, it could have other issues I either forgot to list, or haven't discovered yet. Look at the upgrades and think about what that cost.
