Used 2006 Nissan Quest Mini Camper Van - SALE PENDING for sale in Los Angeles, CA
Vehicle Description
This van mini camper was built in the fall of 2020 to travel from Pennsylvania to California mid-pandemic. The goal was to design and build a vehicle capable of a mostly self-sustained trip without the need to use public facilities [besides pumping gas] while being capable of being completely stealthy in any environment.
We drove it down through the south and across the southwest and found it surprisingly comfortable with two people. We are selling it because a change in our lives is giving us a lot less time to travel. Buy this van and go on that adventure you've been craving. Handles dirt roads well highway even better. Easy to parallel park and fits in any parking space to go shopping or for easy storage.
Unlike bigger vans, this isn't a target for thieves or nosey/bothersome communities and parking areas. You can park it anywhere and sleep in it and no one will bother you. It is also much easier to park and drive than a full-size van. No need to rent expensive parking. It features an independent 12v power system, running hot and cold water, fold-out bed, mini-fridge/freezer, LED lighting, fold-out ceramic tile stove platform, hidden toilet, and a fold-out bed.
Power:
The electrical system is currently charged off a 165A alternator, but could easily have solar added.
Wired properly and safely with 4ga main wire, 8ga high current circuits [inverter and water heater], 16 ga lighting. Multiple circuit breakers for control and safety.
100 Ah sealed AGM deep cycle battery, additional charge ports, voltage meters, and independently switched LED lights.
400w/800w inverter
Flip down DVD player. disc reader doesn't work but AUX in does.
Water:
7 gal fresh water tank2.5 gal water heater converted to run 12VDC
4 gal grey water tank
Chemical toilet
Stainless steel sink
12v water pump
Pressure accumulator
Outdoor shower hookup
Kitchen:
18L refrigerator freezer [quiet compressor]Butane stove. Pop-out ceramic tiled stove platform with storage underneath
Other:
Large storage areas under the bed and under the counter. Additional storage is hidden in the floor and under the fridgeBlackout curtain and custom curtain rod separating the front from the back.
Modularity
Perhaps one of the most important features of this build is it is based on a steel tubing skeleton that is bolted into the chassis using the existing seat and seat belt mounting points. This makes the entire interior removable. Say you crash this van and it is totaled [or you just drive it until the engine needs to be replaced or something], the whole camper conversion can be unbolted and bolted in another Quest of the same generation. The body was not altered and only existing mounting points were used. There aren't dozens of drywall screws holding it all in. A skilled person could remove and reinstall this in another Quest minivan in a single day.
I was also concerned about weight because I didn't want it to handle any differently or sag. the entire build is about 200lbs.
Mechanical
The following parts were installed 3500-4000 miles ago [before we drove back to LA]:
Right CV driveshaft
4 - Kenda Kenetic All-Season tires 60k mile warranty
4 - Tire pressure sensors [one is now dead, should be replaced]
Front struts, springs, and strut mounts
Rear shocks
Exhaust mid-pipe
Catalytic converter
Spark plugs
Belts
Belt tensioner
Oil cooler line
Oil pan
Air Filter
Cabin air filter
Front carbon-ceramic brake pads and drilled and slotted rotors
Rear carbon-ceramic brake pads and plain rotors
Dash LED screen [common failure in Nissans]
Wipers
Coolant flush
LED headlights
20% ceramic window tint.
Tinted rain guard visors
The build quality of the stock van is quite good and the 3.5L V6 engine is not only powerful but very reliable. This engine has been used in the 350z, Maxima, Altima, Murano, Pathfinder, Infiniti QX, G35, FX35, I35, and M35. This is not only a testament to its reliability, but its popularity also makes parts inexpensive and mechanics easy to find.
KBB price for the van without the camper conversion in this condition $4,200-5,800 and there is several thousand dollars of recent maintenance work, and thousands into the conversion. Compared to similar conversions that have sold around the country, I feel the price is very fair, but I am willing to hear reasonable offers.
I'm happy to answer any questions, but any low-ball offers will be deleted and not responded to. Cash only. Not interested in trades. As-Is. Clean PA title. Will smog this week.
