Used 2013 Fiat 500e Electric Automobile - cars & trucks - by owner -... for sale in Yuma, AZ

2013 Fiat 500e, all electric, orange two-door hatchback, for $6,500. I am the third owner and the car has approximately 36,000 miles (may vary because I am still driving it). Please do a Google search on the Fiat 500e and you will find it is the BEST and least expensive all electric car that you can purchase anywhere in the United States.

Introduction

Will Rogers, the world renowned humorist of the 1920s and 30s was once asked what somebody should invest in to be as successful as he was. His answer: “Buy land, they ain’t makin’ any more of it.”

That applies to the 500e as FCA (Fiat-Chrysler America) as withdrawn from importing any new 500e’s to the United States. Upon introduction, the Fiat 500e was only available in California with some later models also available outside of California. This particular car was only available in California and was a lease return. A buyer from Phoenix, AZ, purchased it after the lease expired and shipped it to Arizona for his personal use. I purchased the car in October, 2017 and brought it to Yuma.

FCA lost $15,000 for every Fiat 500e it produced but they swallowed that because California required an electric model from them--otherwise they could not sell any other cars in California. Please don’t confuse the 500e with the regular Fiat 500. They are completely different cars. They have the same body shell, but the electric version is more appropriately described as a Bosch electronic device on four wheels. Bosch electronics are the best that Germany can offer. So, the innards of this car are of supreme high quality and reliability.

Mechanical

With this electric car you will never have to:

Change the oil and filter cause there ain’t none
Flush the radiator cause there ain’t one
Change the air filter cause there ain’t one
Flush transmission fluid or have any tranny problems cause their ain’t a transmission
Rarely deal with brake pads cause it uses regenerative power to slow the car

I’ve owned the car for three years and have done NO MECHANICAL REPAIRS of any kind except to buy two tires. By the way, all four tires are in excellent shape—plenty of tread left.

Range

Electric car range is one of those questions that defy a simple answer despite what some car manufacturers would want you to believe. The factors that determine ANY electric car’s range are the following:

1. Outside temperature
2. State of battery charge and age of battery
3. Terrain the car will travel (flat, hills, etc.)
4. Weight of cargo and passengers
5. Whether the car is driven at highway speeds or surface street speeds
6. Whether the AC or heater is in use
7. The PSI of the tires (how much you inflate them)

As you can see, many different factors come into play. Having said that, based on my own driving habits of three years in Yuma, this car has an approximate range of 70 miles in mixed freeway and surface street driving. Thus, it is an “around the town” car only.

Charging

I have a 120v/240v charging system that goes with the car. With that, you can fully charge in less than four hours from dead empty on a 240v source (dryer outlet). With about a 30-mile range left on the battery, I can fully charge in less than two hours with the 240v. If you go with a 120v source, you can expect to charge from dead empty to full in about 12 hours ( in other words, usually overnight).

Miscellaneous

Since ownership, I have put about 3,000 miles per year in local driving. AC works great—cold as a Canadian winter. Although I doubt you will ever need it, the seats are heated as well.

The car has some minor road rash where inconsiderate drivers swiped the rear end in a parking lot. The right outside mirror was also replaced. The hatchback lid works fine but the handle to release the lid is a bit loose—does not effect functioning. There is a small interior dash piece attached to the radio that is missing. It is only cosmetic and does not effect the functioning of the radio.

The seats are covered in their original cream/orange vinyl and are in great shape. I covered them with towels for my own comfort. I will include a complete set of front seat covers that I never used.

The car can carry two small children in the rear seat, but two adults in the rear would be a bit impractical and uncomfortable. I have the rear car seats flat for easier hauling of groceries, etc. It is best if you consider this car as a two-seat coupe with plenty of hauling space.

The car is registered and titled as a Clean Air/Blue Skies car in Arizona. The tags are good til 2023. VLF and licensing fees, because it’s a Clean Air car, are about $15 a year.

Final Thoughts

If you want to start your first electric car ownership on a high note, this is the car for you. No fuss, no muss. Again, do a Google search on the Fiat 500e and you will find out how great they are.

This car would be perfect for anyone that needs to commute to work, school, or is on a tight fuel budget. Based on current electric rates in Arizona, this car is dirt cheap to operate. Total cost to charge from empty to full is about $3.52 or about 92 miles per gallon equivalent. It would also make for a perfect TOAD as you would just plug it in at your RV site and charge for free. Can’t beat that.

The price is negotiable, but be aware that these cars are a rare commodity since people in the know keep them for a long period of time. So, I can move a little bit on the price.
