Used 1948 Nash Ambassador for sale in Solon, OH

When automobile production restarted in late 1945 after a three-year suspension during WWII, the 1946 Nash models were identical to the pre-war design with a full-sized, body-on frame powered by an unusual 234 cubic inch overhead valve inline six-cylinder engine rated at 112 hp.

Nash Motors produced the full-size Ambassador convertible for only one year, and only 1,000 convertibles were built in the 12-month model year ending in October 1948.

Starting the following year, Nash became the first American auto maker committed to full-line production of unit body automobiles.

These milestones make any 1948 Nash Convertible a rare find. What makes this specific 1948 Nash even more rare is that it is one of only approximately 60 known to exist today.

This custom antique was restored over an eight-year period just over ten years ago. During the body-off restoration, every nut and bolt was either replaced or restored, and many receipts and pictures taken during the restoration are available.

This car has two Carter carburetors, which were introduced in 1950. The prior owner configured the Edmonds manifold to accommodate this installation on the original 1948 engine. Recent work also included cleaning and boiling out the gas tank and adding a new stainless steel exhaust.

Built on a 121-inch wheelbase, this Ambassador is distinguished by many modern design details including the full-width horizontal bar grille, doors that drop to the bottom of the body sills and a raked vee windshield.

This car is well-optioned with a radio, Weather Eye heating and ventilation system and twin fog lights. All gauges, including the clock and radio, are working. The Cruising Gear overdrive works well, allowing the car to speed along easily at 60 mph. All five Firestone whitewall tires are in good condition, including the matching one in the trunk which has never been on the ground.

The exterior paint is extremely nice, and the chrome gleams . . . there are no signs of deterioration. The interior and top are near-perfect with no signs of wear. The car is maintained and serviced on a regular basis, and it shows extremely well.

The current owner is now in his 90s and wants to make sure this rare antique goes to a good home where the new owner will care for it as well as he has. In fact, he has driven this Nash Ambassador less than 2,000 miles since its restoration and has cared for and stored it in a climate-controlled garage in his home.
