This 1958 Edsel Bermuda Station Wagon is an ultra-rare, well-documented example of Edsel's iconic top-of-the-line station wagon. The story of Edsel started in the late 40s when the Ford Motor Company, then under the direction of Henry Ford II, wanted to expand the company's coverage across the automotive landscape and to better compete with its fellow Big Three rivals, General Motors and Chrysler. After a brief hiatus during the Korean War, a Special Products Division was established in 1955 and this new division began developing a car with the code name of "E-Car." The goal of the designers of codenamed "E-Car" was to create a car so recognizable that it could be identified from a block away. Ultimately, the "E-Car" Special Products Division was the impetus of what would become the Edsel Division, named after Henry II's father Edsel Ford. The Edsel brand however was short-lived, perhaps in part due to poor timing with the onset of the economic recession occurring in 1958. Nonetheless, the early Edsels remain one of the most recognizable cars ever produced with their iconic "horse collar" grilles and "boomerang" taillights. Of course, the Bermuda Wagon was equipped with the famous Edsel grille and taillights, but the most quintessential feature of the Bermuda Station Wagons was the iconic side wood paneling all along the side of the car. This particular Bermuda is believed to be the only Bermuda sold new in Canada and has numerous documents from previous ownership. Under the hood on this Edsel Bermuda is an E400 361 Cubic Inch V8 engine with a recently rebuilt single 4 barrel carburetor, that pushed out 303 horsepower back in 1958. This Edsel is equipped with a Teletouch Push-Button 3 Speed Automatic Transmission, which was an eccentric Edsel-only option offered for $231.40 in the late 50s and featured Push Buttons in the center cap of the steering wheel to shift. The Teletouch motor was also just rebuilt on this beauty and works great! Being that Edsels were a bit more deluxe than the base-model Fords, they were typically well-optioned. With Power Steering, getting in and out of tight spaces is made much easier and improves the overall drivability of the car. Bringing this Bermuda Station to a stop is made simpler with Power Brakes as well. The exterior on this Bermuda is finished in its original color scheme, Ember Red and Frost White, which really helps this Wagon stand out in a crowd! The exterior chrome and simulated woodgrain paneling on this Edsel are in tremendous shape as well, especially for a 60+ year old car. This Edsel Bermuda Wagon sits on 4 Wide Whitewall Bias-Ply Tires with Chrome Wire Wheels, which gives this 50s wagon a truly classic look. The interior on this '58 Edsel Bermuda Station Wagon is sensational! Front and rear bench seats appear to have been recently reupholstered in Red and White Vinyl, and comfortably seat 6 passengers. The red and white door panels and white headliner also appear to have been recently reupholstered and are in excellent condition. The interior woodgrain paneling and trim have a fantastic look and show well. The dash and steering wheel are in their stock configuration and look great! The instrument cluster looks to be stock and features a compass, fuel gauge, temperature controls, electric clock, and Edsel's iconic floating saucer-like Speedometer.
