Used 1986 Jeep CJ for sale in Fort Worth, TX
Vehicle Description
With the Light Blue paint on this truck, it just looks like it's waiting to go have an adventure. The color is a dead ringer for the shade of blue found on the YJ Islander Edition Jeeps, and it's a perfect choice to calm down the truck's otherwise hard-nose, bruiser presentation. It's not a show queen, but it sure looks right and offers a great driver-quality luster and shine that seems just right for a vehicle from the late-'80s vintage. Within the DNA of this awesome build you can easily the roots of the Jeep M715 military truck that donated the frame, the front clip was swapped-in from a YJ Wrangler, and even though the 7.5' bed was custom built it closely resembles that of a CJ-8 Scrambler. The result is a go-anywhere truck that's built both for the trail and the street. The squared-off lines on the body are pure Jeep design, punctuated by the beefy black fender flares, step bars, and blacked-out roll bar in the bed. Up front the YJ grille was painted to match the body, complete with squared-off LED lights from the same model, and the heavy-duty steel bumpers provide an industrial look that fits the theme of the build perfectly. The custom bed was coated with black spray-in bedliner paint that can withstand punishment, and the back legs of the roll cage were cleverly mounted atop the inner fenders to maximize space and give this truck a hole lot of cargo area. Both the roof of the cab and the metal doors are removable, so open-air cruising is just seconds away, and if you wanted to carry more passengers a CJ/YJ rear bench could easily be installed, Scrambler-style.
The black interior comes equipped with new racing-style bucket seats made from super-tough upholstery, a center console, and door panels upholstered in black vinyl to match. The floor was treated to a professionally applied spray-in black bedliner, so no maintenance required there, and the headliner and CJ dash pad add some civility without affecting the 'no worries' demeanor of the cab. Original black-faced gauges set inside a chrome bezel pop out against the Jeep's black dashboard and a leather-rimmed billet steering was mounted atop a polished tilt column that gives the driver a lot more room in the cockpit. Tall shift levers for the 5-speed manual and 2-speed transfer case are a short reach away, right where you need them in the rough. Like most Jeeps, this one is best enjoyed alfresco, but in case of inclement weather you get the full hard top and steel doors you see in our pictures. Options are predictably scarce (after all this is a Jeep, not a Lexus), although the heater system was recently restored and helps make this Jeep a four-season pickup.
Power comes from a torquey 360 cubic inch V8 roller engine, making this Jeep a lot of fun on or off the pavement. At first glance it looks fairly stock under the hood, but you can see that it features some bolt-on upgrades has always been well-maintained. A big Holley 600CFM 4-barrel carburetor mounts atop an aluminum air-gap intake, and with a new ignition and aluminum radiator, it fires up with ease and stays cool under all conditions. It's packed in there with a modern alternator, new power steering box and system, and a chrome air cleaner up top, but you can also see factory blue engine enamel on the valve covers and engine itself - just like the AMC Jeeps of old. The 5-speed manual transmission is an NV4500, so it's virtually indestructible and the 4-wheel-drive system uses a Dana 237 2-speed transfer case and a Dana 60 kingpin front axle with crossover steering for proper off-road use. Those driveshafts you see underneath were custom made for this truck, and with a Dana 70 rear axle filled with 4.56 gears you can easily scale a mountain. New 20-inch wheels with deep lips are the new 4x4 tradition on lifted rigs these days and they carry big 35x12.50-15 off-road radials that complete the look.
This is an awesome custom truck with fantastic off-roading abilities and a very unique look. Jeep guys and gals will instantly think it's cool, and for the rest, well, this is a great way to join a group that prizes going anywhere, anytime. Call now!
