This is the right generation for sophistication. 1993 was the final year for the 6th gen DeVille, and it was the last time we really got the sharp-edge styling that seemed to define classic Cadillacs. This importance seems to have been understood by the car's only two previous owners. The sheetmetal is crisp with distinction, the bumpers are bright, and the full-length bright trim radiates with elegance. The factory-correct silver paint appears to be the original application, and it radiates with the kind of quality that makes the body panels look like precious metal. And the maroon pinstripe package adds the right touch of premium contrast. It's exactly how you would expect a car where the odometer I believed to reflect actual mileage - averaging under 2,800 miles annually.
The best luxury cars make sure the pinstripe is a preview of the interior. And just like the exterior, this is presented with a premium preservation. As a full-size Caddy, there's plenty of room for people to spread out. You can choose to seat six, or fold down the armrests in both rows to give four people individual limo-like comfort. Of course in a car like this, the driver is always a king. Your seat power adjusts to the ideal position. These later DeVilles were also important because fuel-injected V8 was enlarged to 4.9-liters - the largest of the series. This is believed to be the original motor, and it has the look of stock. There are newer maintenance items, and it runs well. The four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive gives it great off-the-line response and pleasant highway manners. And cruise control means this classic Caddy remains a great long-distance tourer. Add in power steering, four-wheel power disc brakes, and a fully independent suspension that's supple yet athletic, and you get a competent sedan that loves the grand touring experience.
