Used Mercedes 250S 1967 4-Door Sedan - cars & trucks - by owner - vehicle... for sale in Los Angeles, CA

This is a 1967 Mercedes-Benz 250S 2.5 liter inline-six 4-speed automatic 4-door sedan with factory A/C. The A/C has been retrofitted from the old R12 refrigerant to R-134a, making the A/C system more environmentally friendly, but equally importantly, it is far easier to have the A/C serviced; it is very difficult to find anyone willing to work on the old systems with R12 refrigerant and the equipment necessary to do so. This is true for any classic car, American or European, which were manufactured for use with the R12 refrigerant.

This car was manufactured in Germany specifically for sale in the US market in 1967 and sold by a SoCal Mercedes dealer; it is not an 'after-market/gray-market' car that was bought overseas and imported and then modified to meet US DOT specifications as were many cars of this type during those years. The car has the W108/109 chassis and has been gradually restored over the years as it has been one of my personal 'daily driver' vehicles for years.

There are few of these '67 available, the last of the 'hand assembled' Mercedes from that era. A strong and tough car, yet beautiful and elegant. It's a car for someone who appreciates the look and style of these models. I've taken care of it for 30 years, and in it's as good or better condition than most of this model out there -- especially in this price range, and there are fewer on the market every year.

The car is very comfortable and drives well. Over the years, the engine's been rebuilt, along with the transmission and rear diff. As seen in the photo, this 250S model has the gear shift for the automatic transmission on the center console, not on the steering column. Usually a steering wheel shifter was for the 4-speed manual transmission models, and often those were imported European models.

Because I've actively used the car, some updates and modifications were made over these 34 years. There is an alarm system, remote locking/unlocking, removable faceplate CD player, 6-speaker sound system, power locks, power windows, a custom-made wood center console storage box, and tinted windows. The car has all new leather interior with all seating re-padded with new foam cushioning, new interior carpet, matching carpet floor mats, matching carpeted trunk, new white headliner, and all the original burl wood is refinished.

The original factory paint was a dim light green, Mercedes paint code DB 218, and badly faded from the Southern California sun. I had the car stripped down and the engine removed to fully strip the old paint from the car and get the car to bare metal and re-painted in lustrous black paint with a hand-painted pin stripe. There is no trace of the original color.

All chrome accents, trim and window moldings are re-chromed, although there is a small chip about the size of a dime on the one of the driver-door chrome moldings, but that piece could easily be re-chromed to bring it to perfection. The wheels are the original wheels but later were also chromed and have Mercedes wheel center caps. The black rubber molding inlays within the bumpers are also new. A new windshield was also installed a few years ago. There are no after-market modifications to the original engine.

Notice the dual-stack headlights with the new bezels and lenses, plus the larger amber parking light/turn signal assemblies. The tail light assemblies are also new and with new lenses, and with the amber turn-signal lens within the single-piece tail light assembly. The dashboard and steering wheel are original, have no rips or cracks and are in excellent condition.

3-point rocker-locking seat belts have been added to the car, as well as a 3rd rear brake-light. The car has been a Southern California car since its original delivery in 1967 and is an original factory Mercedes 250S built for the US market and not a modified European model. The car has always been garaged, and the body, frame and undercarriage have no rust or damage and are in excellent condition.
With my 30+ years of ownership, the car has a mileage of 70795 on the odometer. I had a 'classic car' insurance policy for many years, and that the policy restricted how many miles this car could be driven in order to maintain that classification and policy.

This is not and has not been a "dealer's car"; it's always been a privately owned and restored vehicle.
As seen in the photos, I also have the original ownership books that came with the car and original dealer service notations from 1967.

During this COVID-19 period, the car has been garaged in a secure classic/exotic car garage in the Valley, and it hasn't been driven since the pandemic began back in March. The car is available to be seen there by appointment. While the car has not been driven, it has been kept with a charged battery and periodically started ; to anyone interested, I can also send a short video of the engine running, combined with these extensive photos. These photos are of the car as it is now actually parked in the garage.

Because of the car not being driven since March, it would be prudent for the buyer to plan on trailering the car home rather than driving the car and have basic maintenance (fluids/flush/filters/spark plugs) done on the car locally before any driving to prevent any potential sediment from the gas tank/fuel line, clogged filters, oil etc fouling the carburetor or engine parts.
