Used O.B.O. (Trades ?) BMW Z3 -With OEM Hardtop (and many Extras) included* for sale in Terre Haute, IN

Vehicle Description

Compare for just a few seconds and you’ll see the value! You are getting the Original Matching Hardtop and Convertible boot included among many other extras! Most other Z3’s you’ll find won’t have either AND they’d be priced as high or higher! Please double-check everything I have stated here. Look at the selling prices of all the other Z3’s without the extras and then look for the extras I have listed on eBay or elsewhere. You will see that I researched everything before listing and that the prices I gave are accurate.

According to my BMW dealership; this BMW Z3 has the RAREST PAINT and INTERIOR COLOR and comes with pretty much EVERY EXTRA you could ask for! Also, pretty much all of the “typical” issues associated with the Z3 have already been addressed, so you really have nothing to do to it after you buy it. Here are a few examples of things that are common with Z3’s (and that if you buy a different one, you’ll probably have to spend time and money on repairing, replacing or fixing) but ARE NOT an issue with this one...

HOW MINE COMPARES...

Excellent heat and air conditioning!

Most Z3’s:-Do not come with the matching factory hard top. Mine does, and is in near perfect condition (easily 9.5 out of 10) including the perfect headliner! (If you had to find a hardtop to retrofit; you would most likely pay $2,500-$4,000 for the top, then have to have it painted to match ($600-$1000) and possibly have the headliner replaced ($1,600 for the part alone, another -$400 for installation) ...and, you’d have to buy the mounting kit ($340-$350) total value of retrofitting a hardtop @ $5,840-$7,450! Some may need new weatherstripping too and you can count on paying @$1,4000-$1,800 additional if it needs new weather stripping...
Most Z3’s:-Do not come with the optional heavy duty hard top cover that can be hung directly on a wall as well as the factory dust cover... mine has both!
Most Z3’s:-Do not come with the hardtop stand ($110-$150)... mine does!
Most Z3’s:-Do not come with the original tonneau cover or “boot” (usually around $300-500 depending on condition and if you can find one used) mine comes with it!
Most Z3’s:-Do not come with the matching BMW custom 100% Sheepskin seat covers... mine does! ($560)
Most Z3’s:-Do not come with the back plastic window protector (shown in pictures) for when you put the top down and its original pouch (Rare/nearly impossible to find used $100 ?) mine does!
Most Z3’s:-Do not come with the custom OEM Z3 car cover and storage pouch ($150-$200 used)... mine does! (And is perfect condition!)
Most Z3’s:-Do not come with OEM matching carpeted floor mats which are next to Impossible to find in beige/tan (I know because I searched the nation for about 4 months before tracking down a new set !) Mine does and they are almost brand new!
Most Z3’s:-Do not come with the optional Deluxe padded armrest with cup holder. ($200 - $250) Mine does (and also comes with the original armrest w/cassette holder.)
Most Z3’s:-Do not come with ANY of the extras (see picture included) but mentioning a few: extra “wooden look” steering wheel; original radio included if you want to put it in to take it back to original (new stereo and trunk mounted amp are currently installed) original BMW service manual and collision estimating guide ($200); oil change|service engine reset tool (in case you want to do your own work) a couple of extra premium oil filters, oil, anti-freeze; misc spare clips, locking gas caps, etc.

NOTE: If you noticed in the pictures, in some, the wheels are different. The pictures with the hardtop show the wheels that were on the car when I bought it. One of those rims were slightly out of round (it was able to be balanced by the tire shop but I could feel it when I drove) so I bought the new ones. (so ignore those rims)
I don’t remember the exact mileage when I bought the new tires (@ $700.00) but I’d guess they have less than 5,000-6,000 miles on them. I also had it aligned at the time I replaced the tires.
Also, Some pictures don’t show the antenna. That’s because I always unscrew it when I put the car cover on. The antenna is included.
Also:
Most Z3’s:-Have worn front (adjustable) strut bushings causing Suspension, steering and alignment issues. Mine are in great condition! Replacement would be over $1,600!
Most Z3’s:-Have a broken or sagging glove box due to the inferior frame... mine has already been replaced! ($150)
Most Z3’s:-Have a cracked/broken “dead pedal” due to plastic degradation and use... mine, already replaced! ($150)
Most Z3’s:-Have worn seat bushings causing the seats to “rock” during acceleration and braking... mine, already replaced! (Parts are cheap @ $17; labor, @ $200)
Most Z3’s:-Have a dented/cracked front nose. Mine was recently professionally restored to perfect! *there is a new very small paint scrape on the very front bottom now. This occurred from a guy who was looking to buy (so he said) test drove it and returned it with the scrape. (BTW, When I had it restored, I had them remove the front license plate frame because Indiana doesn’t require a front plate but I am including the frame in case your state does - you can just reinstall it yourself with a couple screws.)
Most Z3’s:-Have cracked fog lights or no fog lights (due to removal from being cracked and not replaced) Both of mine are brand new! ($175 for each light, plus $150 installation by BMW $500 total!)
Most Z3’s:-Have the Airbag light on, usually due to the seatbelt sensors... mine does not!*
Most Z3’s:-Have faded emblems... mine have been already replaced!
Many Z3’s:-Have moderate severe degradation of the adjustable front suspension... mine are near perfect! (9/10)

Look, it’s a 21 year old car and I am in not, in any way representing that is perfect. What I am saying is that it has been well cared for, garage kept or stored with car cover for most of its life and never abused. I shopped for a Z3 for over 3 years before I bought this one because I wanted one in GREAT CONDITION and I wanted the OEM MATCHING HARDTOP. As you can see by the lists above, it is WELL above average, has the original factory matching hardtop and tons of other extras! I get stares, compliments and comments, lots of attention everywhere I go. People assume that it’s a $30,000 collector car.
Most Z3’s WITHOUT THE HARD TOP in similar condition will easily go for $8,000-$12,000...
Do your research and learn the true cost of having to fix the issues and or the value in having everything already done! The Z3 series are increasing in value due to the classic designation and the quality/reliability of this model.

It's in really good condition but don't expect a new car. Few 21 year old cars are flawless. This one is no exception so I will mention a few really minor things that aren’t perfect:
1) the digital readout on the clock isn’t perfect. It keeps the time but sometimes the display isn’t perfect. I have been looking for a replacement but just haven’t found one yet.
2) the antenna grommet has recently deteriorated. It JUST happened and I haven’t had a chance to replace it yet. (You can look this up on YouTube. It is an easy DIY: BTW: I ordered this and it will come with the car!
3) the outside door handle trim has the typical slight cracking. It isn’t that noticeable until you get close up. I’ve been meaning to replace these, just haven’t done it yet. Again, it’s an easy DIY job (look up on YouTube)
AGAIN: I ordered these and they WILL come with the car.
3) as you might expect on a 21 year old car, there are a few small (but VERY minor) imperfections here and there. Frankly, because they’re not very noticeable, they never concerned me (and I’m pretty picky!)
4) as seen in one of the pictures, there is about a 6”seam separation on the drivers seat. It appears that it could just be easily restitched but I never worried about it because I always use the Sheepskin seat covers year-round because they keep the seats cool in the summer and warm when the weather gets cooler. I never drove it in the winters. (ALSO - I’m including a roll of upholstery that is the closest match to the color of the interior if you ever need to repair something.)
5) very typically, the back window of the soft top no longer has the rubber trim around it. The previous owner had removed it but it doesn’t affect the performance and doesn’t look bad. Most people have no idea it’s not normal. No water gets in.
Lastly, like all Z3’s you can get some drips in heavy rain if you don’t close and seal the automatic windows properly. This isn’t hard and takes about 5 seconds. I’ll show you what I do when you come to pick it up. Alternatively, you can just put the car cover on it when it’s outside. Note: For a more permanent solution; The track of the windows could also be adjusted slightly (again, there are YouTube videos out there but it hasn't been a major concern for me since I know how to keep it from leaking and I keep the cover on if it is stored outside.
This is my list. I tried to include even minor things that I could think of. You may inspect and find something else. I’m not trying to hide anything but you and I may have a difference of opinion in something that would make it more “perfect” in your eyes. You are invited and encouraged to come inspect and drive the car yourself before bidding.

*Just before finishing the listing, I took it in for a fresh oil change (trusted import specialist that I have used for all my imports for the past 20 years) On my way home, the airbag light came on. I have an appointment to have it checked but I suspect that it is a seatbelt sensor. This is very typical for all z3’s and is generally fairly inexpensive to repair. It might be corrected before you see it but I can’t guarantee it. I will try to edit the listing once it’s been corrected.

I have every confidence in this car. I would feel 100% comfortable hopping in right now or putting my son or daughter in it to and drive it anywhere but... Of course, I have to say it. I am selling the car as is, where is. You are invited and encouraged to come see, drive and inspect the car in person or take it to a mechanic to have checked at your expense but I’m not responsible for any issues you may ever have once you have bought it. I do still drive it occassionally so the mileage may increase a little by the time you buy it.

If you’re wondering; I’m only selling because I have too many cars and have decided to let a few go. I actually hate to sell it because I have enjoyed it immensely but now it’s your turn. I will consider other offers or trades.

Sorry, but now for the less pleasant side of Craigslist. I’ve had issues in the past and it seems like a lot of other sellers have also, so be advised:

If you ask me to “hold” the car for you while you come up with the money; I will require a $500 non-refundable deposit. That deposit will “hold” the car for 10 calendar days (240 hours.). At the end of the 10th calendar day, if you haven’t completed the transaction, your deposit will NOT be returned. If you end up being the buyer of the vehicle after that time, I will deduct your deposit from the price and count it as part of the total payment. However, if another buyer has the money and is just waiting for your 10 days to expire and pays the money first, your deposit WILL NOT be returned to you. Look, I don’t want to collect your deposit and then have you not buy the car but it has cost me in the past by “holding” for someone and then they didn’t come thru when I had another ready buyer.

Transaction will be conducted face to face. I will accept cash only at my bank or we can go to your bank and you can withdraw the money at the time we are finalizing the transaction.

NOTE: I don’t need help selling the car. As I said, offers are accepted but I am in no way desperate for money, so don’t ask if I’ll Take $5000 or anything stupid. The best method of contact is via text message as I don’t answer calls from numbers that I am unfamiliar with and I don’t check email that often.

*EDIT 09/22/2019 - IF YOU'VE READ THIS FAR; YOU ARE AT LEAST THINKING ABOUT IT... AS AN EXPERIMENT, I WILL TAKE $500 more OFF THE PRICE THIS WEEK! I’ll delete this edit Next Saturday. Come see it and drive it for yourself!

Scammers, don’t waste your time. I’m not clicking anything to “verify” myself.
