Used SOLD: 1985 battlescarred Chevrolet Corvette survivor for sale in Phenix City, GA

Vehicle Description

Thanks everyone who came to look. The Corvette is sold.

This Corvette has had a hard life. The car wouldn't run when I got it. I got the motor running only to find out the transmission wouldn't shift out of 1st gear when driving forward. Once I got all that working I found a leaky heater core and had to dismantle the interior.

UPDATES:

1. The idle has been "by the book" adjusted(the correct electronic adjustment) to 700-900 rpm warm, 1000-1100 cold. It runs very nicely now!

2. I have verified that every gauage except "Coolant Temp" works and updates, including the MPG computer stuff. I believe it needs a new coolant temp sensor; HOWEVER.there are 3 on my engine. Two near the thermostat, and one back on the right head. I've read some vague references to a "F51" package that had 3 coolant sensors; 1 for the gauge, 1 for the radiator fan, and 1 for "aux cooling". The problem is I can't determine WHICH sensor is for the gauge, so I'd suggest replacing all three.

3. I've picked up an aftermarket coil; that will be either included or installed.

4. I dropped the spare tire, and had it cleaned(full of water), remounted on the wheel, and aired back up.

5. I put the wrong mileage. The original cluster(with odometer) is out of the car and I have a replacement installed. The original cluster shows 73,000 miles. It will be with the car.

I could go on for a few more paragraphs, but I'll say this instead. I've got it running, driving, and stopping. Here's a list of what I've done:

Engine:
1. Replaced wires and stuff in the distributor.

2. Retimed motor. After a lot of troubleshooting I finally discovered that a previous owner had shifted the spark-plug wires 1 position, followed by jamming the distributor as far clockwise as they could in an attempt to make it run! I fixed that. I've also had to rebuild the throttle body. Once I got it running I discovered that most of the vacuum lines/emissions valves/solenoids were disconnected. I've managed to put everything back together, but I'm not certain I've got all the little valves and solenoids working yet.

3. Replaced cruise-control; replaced upper alternator mount, repaired lower; replaced all three power-steering hoses, replaced drive belt; replaced heater core, rebuilt heater control valve.

Transmission:
4. replaced the transmission governer assembly. This was causing ALL of the issues in the transmission.

Exterior:
5. replaced the missing hood strut. I'm in the process of repairing the battery-cover bolt holes(fiberglass repair). I also replaced the windshield wipers and confirmed that system works.

6. replaced the hatchback struts.

Interior:
7. cleaned.CLEANED. THEN CLEANED MORE. Many of the plastic pieces were badly broken. I've repaired as many as I can, and everything fits in place. After replacing the heater core, gauges, information center, radio, and several other dash parts that were broken or missing I reassembled the interior. Due to a previous owner cutting the radio harness I don't have the radio working yet, but I did find a correct radio for this model year.

8. The gauges now work, but I think the backlight bulbs are burnt out. The heater/defrost/air-conditioner all work, though the fan is a bit weak. I cleaned all the vent-tubes and lubricated/repaired all the plenums/cables/vacuum fittings while the dash was disassembled.

9. I removed the seats to clean, and discovered all the support wires underneath were rusted/broken. I spent a few days with a spool of steel wire re-stringing all of the wires, and the seats now feel like seats instead of bean-bags.

10. I replaced door lock, hatchback release, mirror adjust, and window control switches in both doors.
Several interior trim pieces were broken or missing. I've fixed and/or replaced most, although the scars still show.

What the car needs:

1. The transmission will not shift up from 2nd to 3rd. It just drops into neutral. You can drive it around in R, 1, and 2 without any issues at all. I've been told that the "3-4 clutch pack" is worn out and thus the transmission needs rebuilding.
2. The right stop-lamps don't come on. The tail-lamps do. The turn-signals don't come on. The emergency blinkers do.
3. I get some clunking when at speed/cruise-I think the driveshaft u-joint may need replacing.
4. Exhaust needs work. It currently has Hedman headers, and there are several spots where the pipes are rusted through. I have a complete set of exhaust manifolds with accessory piping to return the exhaust to stock; this would necessitate new downpipes in addition to exhaust repairs.
5. The hood was cut by a previous owner. The workmanship was very good, but spoiled the hood. I was considering getting a full-length 'riser' that I've confirmed will cover them all. This would cost around $450 to purchase.
6. All the door/window seals need to be replaced.
7. The driver's window doesn't go up or down well. I was going to purchase a complete window assembly for $150 and replace it.

Well there you have it. I've done quite a bit, but it has a ways to go.
