Used 2004 Audi A4 for sale in Idaho Falls, ID

For sale AS IS. $1000 OBO. 2004 Audi A4. 1.8 turbo engine. FWD. Automatic. Clean title. 156,890 miles. I’ve owned the car since 2011. Just bought a newer car after this started having problems that I don’t know enough to diagnose. It may be an easy fix, or it may be something major and expensive. I’ve described my recent breakdowns as best I can below, and included my current check engine codes.

Generally, this car has been great. New timing belt less than 40,000 miles ago. New fuel pump less than 20,000 miles ago. But last month the car shut down on my way to work. I’m not sure why. As I was driving it felt like the engine stopped receiving gas—even though it was still running. I thought maybe the fuel pump was the problem, but I don’t know enough to say that with any confidence. The ABS light also came on. And I couldn’t get the car to drive. Then, after letting it sit for 30-40 minutes it started right up, and the ABS light was gone (the check engine light is still on—but it has been on for the last 2 years anyway) and it drove fine the rest of the week. However, the next week the same thing happened on my way home from work. Same symptoms and issues. I decided I wasn’t smart enough to fix it and was ready for a newer car. So I parked it and haven’t driven it since it shut down the second time.

The codes currently being thrown are:
P0171
P0507
U0101
P0171 (a second time)

Keep in mind I don’t know much about cars. But I took a look at the engine, and I can see that a hose/valve is broken. These cars are notorious for vacuum leaks but I would think that can’t be the only issue that caused the breakdowns. It may be an easy/cheap fix and run great for years, or maybe its dead. I don’t know. Either way, it’s for sale in AS-IS condition.

I can’t deliver it anywhere because I don’t want to drive it again and risk breaking down in the middle of the road. It’s also no longer covered by my insurance. So you’ll have to come get it. I’d suggest you tow it home so that you can work on it and fix whatever the problem is before you take it on the road.

As for the more minor issues:

· The back window on the passenger side has a broken regulator. I’ve wedged the window shut for now but I’d recommend replacing the regulator. Not too difficult of a fix if you have the right part.

· Small but noticeable dent on the front passenger door. Additionally, the trim on the front passenger door fell off. But its in the trunk if you want to figure out how to reattach it.

· The plastic backing behind the driver seat (visible from the back seat) fell off. Again, it’s in the trunk if you want to figure out how to reattach it.

· The headliner detached but I used upholstery pins to put it back in place. That fix sounds ghetto because it is ghetto. But it looks better than you’d think.

· The glove box is broken. It will still shut but one side is detached so you have to be careful with it. That was actually broken when I bought it in 2011. I always said I was going to fix it but I never did. I just keep it shut all the time and forget about it.

· There is some sun-fading occurring with the paint and various minor scratches. Nothing too bad.

· About 15 months ago an Audi dealership inspected the car and recommended that I replace the control arms and motor mounts. I never did because they wanted to charge me a lot of money to do it and I don’t know what control arms and motor mounts are anyway. I figured it was one of those situations where they change your oil and then tell you that everything about the car needs replaced to generate more revenue. Or maybe it was a legitimate need and and I’m a moron for ignoring it.

I’ve installed an AUX cable and the sound system still works great.

Overall I’ve loved this car and if someone can fix whatever caused my recent breakdowns I’m confident you’ll love it too.
