The Cougar certainly has an attractive big cat swagger. The styling is Mustang-sized, but it's a little more sophisticated - from the sporty body crease sweeping the profile, to the hidden headlights that were definitely more Lincoln than Ford. A few extra dollops of chrome, including the hallmark sequential tail lights with their chrome surrounds. So this car manages to look both sporting and elegant at the same time. The Medium Lime certainly looks right for this dual premium and sporty role that the Cougar represented. It has a good shine and a golden glow. Plus, a well-done black vinyl roof is the ideal way to announce a 1960s upper-class machine, and there are even the pinstripes to match. The whole package is nothing too fancy that you'll be too nervous to drive it, which is good, because this Cougar retains a sharp look that's ready to be shown off.
All the black accenting of the exterior gets you ready for the full black interior. Mercury built these with a leather interior, and the front buckets were plush units with wide headrests. So since this one retains such an original style, there's still an instant feeling of premium the moment you sit in the driver's seat. A center console, three-spoke steering wheel, round gauges, and all that wood trim - it's the perfect blend of luxury and performance. Detail lovers will marvel at how clean and complete the whole package is. So it even impresses in the little things, like the working AM radio and courtesy lights.
Power for the big cat comes from a 351 cubic-inch V8. It's a perfect fit in the Cougar's engine bay and gives the car stout performance without the big block weight.
